Needed: Paint Shop Pro 8

Picture Tube of your choice.

Skill Level: Intermediate

 

Preparation: 

 New Transparent Image  

230 x 230 pixels

to use for a side-border tile

style like we are going to do in

this tutorial.

 Of course you can go on your

own and make this bigger if

you would like to use as a

header frame with minor

adjustments, stopping at the

add canvas step for instance.

 

There is a point to save mentioned in

step 24 for use as a tag for Taggers!

NOTE: If you have a layer

saying Background you need

to promote...ala

Layers/Promote Background Layer.

 

1 Layers/New Raster Layer …

 OK

 

2 Open the tube  of your

choice and resize to a proper

to the 230 image.

(a)Either left click using the

Tube tool

 

(b)or if you keep your tubes in

other files then

Edit/Copy your tube and

activate the transparent image,

Ctrl + A or Selections/Select All and

Ctrl + Shift + L or

Edit/Paste/Paste into Selection.

 

Selections/Select None

or (Ctrl + D)

 

 

3 Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel

Bevel = 2, Width = 8

Smoothness = 10, Depth = 1,

Amb = 0, Shininess = 0

Color = White, Angle = 315,

Intensity = 50, Elevation = 30

OK!

 

4 Effects/3D Effects/ Drop Shadow

Vertical = 15, Horizontal = 1

Opacity = 25, Blur = 25,

Color = Black

 

5 Click on the bottom layer in

your layers palette to make it

the active layer.

 

6 Dropper Tool: Select a

complimentary color for your

background.

Note: Choosing too dark of a color

will affect the effectiveness or the

dropshadow and chisel effects.

Use medium to lighter shades.

 

7 Flood Fill Tool: Left click

on your layer to flood the

bottom layer.

 

8 Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds

Settings:

Width = 5, Opacity = 70, Color = Black,

Note: You may want to use a different

color other than black..  Choose what

you like.. Black is a suggested color.

Horizontal = UNChecked,

Light From Top = UNChecked

OK

 

9 Effects/ReflectionEffects/Kaleidoscope

Settings:

Default

Click on the  icon to reset

to the default setting.

 

10 Image/Add Borders = 8

symmetric checked!

Use a color different from your

tube.

 

11 Magic Wand Tool:

Select new border

 

12 Fill with a color of your choice..

Choosing 2 colors from your

graphic and using the BG/FG

selection from your gradients

is cool too! 

 I am using a gold effect.

Note: Jaggies may appear too

noticable if you use a gradient

fill here.

 

13 Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel

Same settings as before in step 3.

 

14 Selections/Invert or (Ctrl + Shift + i)

 

15 Effects/3D Effects/Cutout

Settings:

Horizontal & Vertical both at 2

Opacity = 65, Blur = 15,

Shadow color = Black

Fill interior with color = UNChecked

 

16 Repeat Cutout

Change only the Horizontal & Vertical

both to Minus 2

 

17 Selections/Invert or (Ctrl + Shift + i)

 

18 Selections/Promote Selection to Layer

 

19 Selections/Select None or (Ctrl + D)

 

20 Effects/Geometric Effects/Circle

Settings:

Wrap checked

 

21 Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel

Settings:

Same as step 3

 

22 Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow

Settings:

Same as in step 4

 

23 Layers/New Raster Layer

 

24 Optional.. your choice!

 Add Corners or decorations of

your choice to extend

all along the top and then the

bottom left corner only.

Note: Add new raster layers

for each thing that you

add so you can use the mover

tool to put each in the proper

positions.

Important: Leave the border

on the outer edge exposed.

Do not cover it!

You may like to add text too!

Taggers may like to save this at this

point and use it for a tag!

 

25 Layers/Merge Visible

 

26 Image/Canvas Size

Settings:

 

 

27 Magic Wand Tool:

Settings:

 

Select the transparent area

 

28 Flood Fill Tool: Filling the

transparent selection with

the same color as you did your

frame background is suggested.

    If you would rather use a

different color then feel free

you froggy thing! LOL

  Choosing 2 colors from your

graphic and using the BG/FG

selection from your gradients

29 Effects/Textured Effects/Blinds

Use the same settings as before but

change the color

to white to lighten!

Settings:

Horizontal and Vertical both at = 10

This will put shadow at the

right and bottom.

 

33 Selections/Promote Selection to Layer

Leave it selected!

 

34 Effects/3D effects/Chisel

Settings:

Size = 20, Transparent Checked,

Color= Right click on box under the

word color and choose the same

color that you have been using

for your fills.

OK

 

35 Effects/3D effects/Drop Shadow

Settings:

Horizontal and Vertical both at = 10

Opacity = 25, Blur = 10, Color = Black

This will put shadow at the right and

bottom.

 

36 Effects/3D Effects/Cutout

Settings:

Horizontal & Vertical both at 2

Opacity = 65, Blur = 15,

Shadow color = Black

Fill interior with

color = UNChecked

 

37 Repeat Cutout

Change only the Horizontal &

Vertical both to Minus 2

 

38 Selections/Select None or

 (Ctrl + D)

 

39 Layers/New Raster Layer

This step is to add your

watermark so you can move it

into position etc. with your

mover tool.

 

40 Layers/Merge All (flatten)

 

41 File/Export/Jpg

Letter Creator Tips:

On the body page set your Text

Margin for the Left at 267.

 

1 Selection of your FONT color is

all important.. Just using black

does not always make it the 

easiest to read on this background. 

 

2 Also you might select a FAT

Font.. Remember you want them

to be able to read what is typed!

 

3 Do not forget to click the tile

button on the same body page.

 

4 On the Body page set the left

margin at 267 so your text will

not overrun the graphic!

 

 Remember to Watermark your creations!
